Exporting ADS Designs for Milling (ECEn 361)

 

  1. Look over your design. Any gap less than approximately 20 mils will be impossible to machine. Any trace less than approximately 20-25 mils will also be impossible. You must resize any features that are too small.
  2. Choose File>Export.
  3. Select Gerber from the File Type drop-down box. Click OK.
  4. Click the Translation Settings button. You will see the Translator Settings window.
  5. Under Outline/Fill, select the Fill radio button. Under Gerber Output Format, select RS274X. Click OK.
  6. Back in the MTOOLS window, click the Translate button. Click OK in the Select translation layers window.
  7. The Mask to Gerber window quickly translates your design.
  8. Click Exit on the MTOOLS window.
  9. Minimize or close all the open windows. (Be sure to save anything you need to.)
  10. Open My Computer or an Explorer window.
  11. Browse to your project folder. Don't browse any deeper.
  12. Find the file named COND.GBR. This is your conductor layer. Right click on this file, choose Rename, then rename it to <your initials>_361L<lab number>C.GBR.
  13. Copy your files to the TA zip disc or flash drive.
